Overview of integration courses
The DeutschAkademie language school is certified by the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) and holds the ‘German integration courses’ prescribed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Courses comprise a total of 300 teaching units (45 minutes each) and last 5 months (5 course levels of 4 weeks each). The objective of the courses is to reach language proficiency level A2 according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The Austrian Integration Fund subsidizes 50% of the costs of these integration courses. The City of Vienna, too, subsidizes the courses in the form of language vouchers, currently worth € 300.
After deducting the possible subsidies, one of our integration courses costs from € 50 a month for three hours of lessons a day, from Monday to Thursday.
German integration courses in Vienna
The German integration courses of the DeutschAkademie in Vienna cover a total of five levels: 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B and M1(1). Each German course lasts four weeks and comprises three lessons a day from Monday to Thursday. Every month the DeutschAkademie in Vienna offers integration courses of different levels at 12.00h and 15.00h. The integration examination takes place at the end of the last integration course. If the participant passes the examination, he/she will be given a course certificate and a refund of up to 50% of the course fees by the Integration Fund.
Participants who already have a basic command of German can also start at a higher course level than 1A. For this purpose it is necessary to take our placement test in order to see what level the participant can enter.

Examination
The integration examination takes place at the DeutschAkademie
in Vienna at the end of the M1.1 course and is free
of charge for our candidates, who have an integration
voucher. A pass in the integration examination means
meeting the official requirements of the integration
agreement. This is necessary for prolonging the residence
permit.
The examination lasts about three hours and covers four sections: reading, writing, speaking and understanding.
Migrants who have not attended the integration course in the DeutschAkademie can also register for the examination. They must pay an examination fee of € 80.
Subsidies - Vouchers
1. Yellow ÖIF (Austrian Integration Fund) Vouchers
You can get these vouchers at MA 35 (Municipal Department for Immigration, Citizenship and Registry Office). A voucher is valid for two years after the date of issue. Please bring this three-page yellow voucher with you when you register at the DeutschAkademie.
With this voucher you get 50% of the course fees back from the DeutschAkademie. You must pay the remaining amount privately (after deducting further subsidies).
If less than the sum of 300 teaching units is required, the reimbursement will be reduced correspondingly. This applies particularly to participants who start at higher levels because they already have a command of German.
2. Viennese language vouchers & Viennese education pass 2008
With language vouchers the City of Vienna supports German integration courses for new migrants. The Viennese language vouchers have a value of € 300 (3 x 100 Euro).
New migrants who came to Vienna between 1 January 2007 and 30 September 2008 have received the Viennese language voucher 2007 or 2008 from the Department for Immigration, Citizenship and Registry Office (MA 35). The vouchers are valid for 30 months. You can find information on MA 35 here.
Viennese language vouchers issued after 1 October 2008 are integrated in the Viennese education pass and can only be used once the ‘Startcoaching’ module of the Department for Integration and Diversity Affairs (MA 17) has been attended.
A language voucher can only be used for 80 teaching units (UE) of an integration course. At the DeutschAkademie in Vienna this is the equivalent of 5 weeks (80 teaching units) of an integration course.
- 1 voucher worth € 100 can be used to book 2 course levels (8 weeks).
- 2 vouchers worth € 200 can be used to book 3 course levels (12 weeks).
- 3 vouchers worth € 300 can be used to book 4 or 5 course levels (16 or 20 weeks).
- No Viennese language voucher can be used to book just one course level (4 weeks – 60 teaching units), as it can only be used as of 80 teaching units according to the rules of the Municipal Department.
