FAQ 4: German courses Vienna
4. Prerequisites for the
German course, teaching:
4.1. What must I be able
to do, in order to be able to participate in a German
course at the DeutschAkademie?
If you come from a country where different characters are used for writing, you must be able to read and write our script. Otherwise you must first attend an alphabet course.
4.2. Can I even attend a
German course, if I don't yet speak a word of German?
Certainly you can do that. We have many beginners from
all over the world in our German language school.
4.3. What about if I've
already learned some German?
Then we carry out a placement test, in writing in every case and possibly also an oral test.
4.4. Can pupils under 16
years old also attend the school?
Unfortunately not. Our school specializes in adults, and so only teaches pupils from the age of 16.
4.5. Can I change course
level, if I feel over- or under-challenged?
Don't worry; our placement tests are very accurate. But should you be placed in the wrong level even so, we will find a solution for you.
4.6. Can I still learn something,
if I can already speak German very well?
Of course. We have the right German course for every level of knowledge.
4.7. How much German must
I know, in order not to have to go into the course for
absolute beginners?
There is a test for that too. It is important that you be able to form simple complete sentences in the present tense. Of course this still involves a relatively small vocabulary. But we can only come to a definite decision on that with a test.
4.8. What is the language
of instruction?
The language of instruction is always German. This is
the only way you can learn the German language quickly.
4.9. Are there teachers
who speak my native language?
Teaching is, in principle, always conducted in German.
That means that the German teacher will normally not speak
in your language, even if he or she can do so. Many of
our teachers have also taught in other countries and speak
several foreign languages fluently. There are no communication
problems.
4.10. How many pupils are
there in a group?
The German class size is between 5 and 10 students. This
allows our student to learn faster and better than in
larger groups.
4.11. What teaching materials
are used?
We get our books from Hueber-Verlag, "Tangram"
for the Basic Level and "em" for the Middle
Level. Our teachers also devise their own German course
materials and exercises, which are tailor-made for your
group. As well as this, they carry out listening exercises
from the book and think up games for variety and motivation,
to give the learning process an interesting and communication-oriented
form.
4.12. What sort of training
do the DeutschAkademie teachers have?
All our teachers are specialists. Most of them have a
degree in teaching German as a foreign language. With
us you will find the best teaching conditions: trained,
experienced Austrian or German teachers.
4.13. Do I have to buy my
own textbooks?
No. You can also buy your books here in our office. They
cost € 16-18, but are not included in the price of the
German course.
