FAQ 8: German courses Vienna
8. Visa and admission to the University of Vienna:
8.1. What do I have to do to get my visa or my residence
permit?
If you want to study in Vienna, Austria, first you need
a confirmation of admission to the University of Vienna.
You need this admission in order to be able to apply for
your student visa at the Austrian Embassy in your home
country.
8.2.
And what if I don't get a visa? Am I still obliged to
pay for the whole German course?
If you forward the visa refusal to us at the latest 1
week before German classes begin, you will get your money
back.
If we have already sent a confirmation of enrolment to the Embassy or incurred other expenses, you must bear these expenses.
8.3.
What do I need for admission to the University of Vienna?
To be allowed to become a student at the University of
Vienna, you need the Matura (equivalent of German Abitur)
or an equivalent qualification which entitles you to study
at a university.
You must also already be enrolled at a university in your home country (both for the same period of time and for the same field of study). Students from certain Asian countries must also establish that they have already studied for a certain period at home. You must also be able to prove a knowledge of German. So if you did not learn German in school, you must learn German before starting your study. We are happy to help you prepare for the ÖSD-Mittelstufenprüfung.
8.4. Is my secondary school certificate recognized in
Austria?
You can find out whether your school-leaving certificate is recognized in Austria on this page: http://www.univie.ac.at/studienabteilung/nicht_oesterr_reifez.htm
8.5. Where do I get detailed information about enrolment
in the University of Vienna?
The University of Vienna has its own homepage to answer your questions (http://www.univie.ac.at/) and also offers the possibility of enrolling online (https://univis.univie.ac.at/vi_studenten/flow/studenten-flow) and having information sent to you.
