Leisure time in Vienna

In my leisure time I often play guitar, whether in a band, small gigs, or just simply practicing. I find that playing often helps me to relax and take a break from the boredom of everyday daily routine. That’s why the music store is my second home!

The German Online Course

The German online course is a pretty neat tool. I really like the Prepositions exercises and the fact that it is also possible to answer any random question adapted specifically to the desired level. I think it’s a very helpful website that is absolutely a must for anybody who studies German!

Entry 7

I’ve had the pleasure to meet many friends in DA. Last week I got invited to an opening of a pop art exhibition in Vienna organized by my American colleague Jeniffer, which was definitely pretty cool. Sometimes my colleagues and I meet at a coffee-shop to discuss interesting issues, politics, and life in Vienna.

My Colleagues

dsc01538.JPGTo my right is Ljuba. She is from Kazakhstan but now she lives in Vienna with her husband, her main motivation to learn German is to be able to integrate within Austria. Then there’s Agata from Poland, she is working with maps and coordinate data in Vienna. The guy in the middle of the photo is Richard, who was born in Thailand but lived for a while in London. He is currently looking for employment as a makeup artist. The woman on the left is Jennifer who is an art dealer at Britto Central in Vienna.  Other students include Jana from Finland and Galina from Ukraine. Although they all come from various nationalities, they all share the goal of studying German in order to be able to live and work in Austria.

What do I like best about DeutstchAkademie

Two things that I like best about DeutschAkademie are the method of teaching and the small size of the group. The teaching comprises an effective mix of grammar, listening comprehension, reading, and talking which has improved my German by leaps and bounds. The small size of the group is also very helpful because it allows every student to ask questions and participate. I have definitely noticed an improvement during my time in DA, which motivates me even more to study. As for our teacher, Evelyn, I have nothing but praise. She is always very helpful, kind and answers any question that a student might have clearly and effectively. Definitely a great teacher.

Fourth Entry

Aside from being the capital city of Austria with the population of approximately 1.7 million people and a rich historic heritage, Vienna has many cultural attractions. For example, great Flemish Baroque and Neoclassical art can be found in Kunsthistorisches Museum, whereas just a walking distance away lies MuseumsQuartier where modern art lovers can enjoy Leopold Museum and Mumok. If your tastes lie somewhere in between, there is always the option to go to Albertina, where impressionist and post-impressionist paintings are regularly shown.to the left of MuseumsQuartier is Mariahilferstrasse, which is a „shopper firendly“ street packed with a variety of shops and restaurants. Other important landmarks include the Rathaus (serving as a seat for the mayor and city council of Vienna, Hofburg, Belvedere, Schonbrunn Palace, and the Parliament building (modeled on the Greek Acropolis).Music lovers will hardly be disappointed with the Wiener Staatsoper, which always offers excellent monthly programs offering anything from Verdi to Mozart. if you like Jazz, chances are you have already heard of Jazzland, located near Schwedenplatz. In addition, there are many more pubs, clubs and live music locales in Vienna. However, listing all of them is virtually impossible….so yeah.

Why German?

img_0790.jpgThere are many reasons as to why I have decides to take German. Firstly, learning German will enable me to get a better insight into Austrian culture and converse with the locals in their own language. Secondly, knowing German will provide me with better job opportunities in the future, which are essential in today’s competitive labor market. Plus, learning an additional language is always a good thing! The intensive month long program is the main reason why I chose Deutsch Akademie, with the additional benefit of time flexibility, allowing me to work and study German at the same time.

Second Entry – First Course Day

dsc01538.JPGdsc01539.JPGThe first day at Deutsch Akademie was great. we began our lesson by introducing ourselves to the other group members and sharing our experiences in Vienna. In particular, I liked the diversity within the group and the interesting cultural input from each group member. We have got  students from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Poland, Thailand, USA, Finland and China. Most of whom are around 30 years of age. Although I am by far the youngest student in our group, we all manage to help each other out and make German studies even more fun. Let’s hope it will stay this way!

Being Lev Lilenko

Chilling outside of Hofburg
