Hannovermarkt – Saturday Morning Adventure.

If you live around U6 or U4 line, you are in luck for a nice treat every weekend. During the morning / afternoon hours on Saturday/Sunday, one can head over to the Hannovermarkt (map). The best way to get the is via U6 to the Jägerstraße stop (map) and a short walk south of the station. The market is open all week, however during the weekend local farmers as well as bigger farmer stands appear.  If you are interested in some local produce / cheese / wine / eggs as well as other varieties of imported produce, you will not be disappointed.

I personally like shopping with the local farmers, they charge by the kilo. You can pick almost anything you want by grabbing one of the metal bins and filling it with whatever is currently in season. Lately, it has been beets, carrots, celery roots, potatoes, onions.

Of course if you want more exotic produce and fruits, there are plenty of permanent and temporary stands that offer just about anything.

Once you are finished with your shopping it is not a bad idea to explore the local shops for some food. I like Bosna Grill (map), a small shop, offering Turkish style food. It offers inside and outside seating. The outside seating is in the heart of the market and is great for watching the market action. The inside of the shop is quite small with a dozen tables. However, the staff is very friend and provide very warm atmosphere for locals and tourists alike.

One of the great specialities of the restaurant is Turkish coffee. If you never had it, I highly recommend it. It is a fantastic experience. The presentation alone is worthy of a photo. The taste is subject to personal opinion. The coffee is rather strong, hence a lot of sugar is provided.
