FAQs – German Course in Vienna
Useful information about your German course:
Accommodation
Unfortunately, we do not currently offer accommodation. But we can give you some tips where you can find accommodation. Please feel free to contact us and we will help you.
Book
The book may change from course to course, as this depends on several factors (which book does my teacher choose? Is the book available for the next level? etc.). However, you are very welcome to let us know your request when booking and we will try to accommodate it. Please understand that this is not always possible.
Unfortunately, printing the digital book is not possible. However, you can use the book offline by downloading it.
For most courses you will need a course book. We will inform you about this when you book.
You must first register once on the respective media platform (BlinkLearning or Hueber interaktiv). Instructions for registration and the respective book codes (incl. start code) will be sent to you by e-mail.
Since there are different textbooks and it depends on the teacher and the course format which course book you need, the book is not included in the course price. The books usually cost between 21-24 €.
The digital book cannot be exchanged.
We will inform you about the course book you will need before the course starts. You will receive an e-mail from us about it.
Cancellation
You can always change or cancel your course up to 14 days before the course starts (in case of visa refusal even up to 7 days before the course starts). After that date, changes or cancellations are unfortunately not possible. However, you are welcome to contact us at any time and we will review your case individually. Please understand, however, that we cannot guarantee any changes after the 14-day period. Our cancellation insurances might also be interesting for you. Here you will find detailed information.
Basically, you can always make changes or cancel your course free of charge up to 14 days before the course starts (in case of visa refusal even up to 7 days before the course starts). After that, changes or cancellations are unfortunately not possible. However, there is the possibility to book a cancellation insurance for certain cases. Certificate / Examination
Each teacher has his/her own teaching style. Some teachers give a test at the end of the course, others give several small tests and others evaluate your homework and cooperation in class.
We are happy to prepare you for the ÖSD exam. You can find more information about our preparation course here.
The exam is not taken by us, we will be happy to recommend an examination institute to you.
After each course you can either download a free course confirmation from the webshop or request a certificate with grades (4 €).

Classification / Level
We also offer grammar courses where the focus is on strengthening grammar. After a free and non-binding placement test, we will be happy to advise you which course suits you best.
We would still ask you to take a placement test. It is free of charge and without obligation and helps us to find the perfect course for you. This way we can guarantee that you achieve the greatest learning success.
Once you have taken the test, your level will be unlocked for you in the webshop and you can book a course place. If we are not yet able to correctly classify you based on the written test results, we ask you to request an oral placement in the webshop. As soon as we have determined your level, you can book a course place.

We also offer conversation courses where the focus is on speaking. After a free and non-binding placement test, we will be happy to advise you which course suits you best.
For the course levels A2.2-B1.2 we offer our conversation club, from B2.1 you can book our conversation course.
This is not a problem. If you have previous knowledge, we will do a small placement test with you before recommending a course level. This way you can be absolutely sure that the course fits your knowledge.
Depending on which levels you are between, we will ask you about some grammar topics, you do not need to prepare for the test.
Course dates
Classes that you cannot attend for personal reasons will neither be refunded nor will you be offered to replace this class by attending another group.
The best thing to do is to inform your teacher. All our tutors are very helpful and supportive and can email you material such as homework.
Additionally you can also visit our free online tutoring sessions and clarify open questions about the lessons.

If you are booking a course at DeutschAkademie Vienna for the first time or your last course was more than 3 months ago, we need the placement test.

It is best to let your teacher know. Our teachers are very helpful and can email you the material such as homework.
We offer German courses in Vienna every month. You can find our next course dates here.
Whether a course actually takes place always depends on demand. We start courses with a minimum of 7 participants. If a course cannot start because there were too few registrations, we will contact you and offer you alternatives. In case none of the alternatives is suitable for you, you will of course get your full course fee back and thus have no risk.
Course duration
For A1 you need A1.1. and A1.2.
For each half level (e.g. A1.1.) you need 4 weeks. So you can complete A1 in 2 months.
It depends on which language course you choose. All our courses last 4 weeks, except the semi-intensive course for 8 weeks and the weekend course for 12 weeks.
Each course level consists of two half levels. You need 4 weeks per half level, so 8 weeks per complete course level.
Here is an example:
A1.1. – 4 weeks
A1.2. – 4 weeks
A2.1. – 4 weeks
A2.2. – 4 weeks

Course format / course type
In addition to our courses by level, we also offer a range of additional courses such as writing courses, office communication, etc. Here you can find an overview of our courses in Vienna.
It is not possible to switch between online and in-house courses during a course level. We guarantee a maximum of 12 participants in a course, so we need to know which course format you would like to attend at the time of booking. However, after each course level you are free to choose whether to continue learning online or in-house.
Example:
You can do A1.1. in-house but A1.2. then online (or vice versa).
We guarantee a maximum of 12 participants per course. Since our courses are usually fully booked, we cannot offer trial lessons. However, we do offer a money-back guarantee, so you can be sure that you are not taking any risks.
Our online live courses take place via Zoom. You can join these courses from anywhere in the world and all you need is a stable internet connection and a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
Unfortunately this is not possible. We guarantee a maximum of 12 participants per group and therefore it is not possible for you to join another group. However, we do offer free tutoring, which you can use to ask questions about the topics you missed. A teacher will be happy to answer your questions and help you.
The intensive course lasts 4 weeks, from Monday to Thursday, 3 hours per day.
The semi-intensive course goes 8 weeks, always twice a week, either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday.
Both course formats can currently be taken online or in-house. Please note that the semi-intensive in-house course is currently only available in the evening.

The visa course always consists of an intensive course and additional courses on Friday and/or Saturday. Here you can find an overview of the respective prices.

Course start
Please refer to the email we send you on Friday or Saturday before the course starts. The room and also the book will be in this email.
We offer all course models every month. This means you can register for any German course at your level in the webshop. To do so, simply register in our webshop.
If you are already registered, you can log in and book a course place.

Free courses
Take a look at our audio course. You can improve your listening and reading comprehension, as well as speaking and grammar skills completely free of charge.
To practice grammar, you can use our grammar trainer for all levels for free and learn German either by level, textbook or grammar topic. We also offer an extra dative-accusative trainer.
Free online tutoring
No, you do not need a password. Just click on the link and join the Zoom meeting.
Registration is not required. You will receive an email on the 2nd day of the course with links to the tutoring service. You can use these links to log in at any time – without pre-registration.
In the first days of your German course you will receive a link for a Zoom meeting, which is the meeting for the free tutoring.
Our native speaking and qualified online German teachers are looking forward to meeting you!
Depending on the number of participants, you can either do exercises with other participants or even have a mini one-on-one lesson. From practicing grammatical aspects to developing your vocabulary, everything is possible with this completely free (for current participants, otherwise € 85) offer!
Funding
In theory, yes. However, cost estimates are always individual. Therefore, we ask you to contact us to discuss exactly what kind of funding you would like to take advantage of. Our staff will be happy to advise you.
We are a private educational institution and unfortunately do not accept vouchers. However, we cooperate with WAFF and you are welcome to apply for WAFF funding. We recommend that you contact WAFF for more information, as there are different funding options.
The DeutschAkademie does not offer integration courses, but private German courses.
General questions
The lessons are only in German, but do not worry, our teachers speak slowly and use photos and games so that you can follow the lessons.
Participation in our courses is only possible from the age of 16. Unfortunately, we do not offer courses for children under 16. However, we are happy to organize private lessons for your child. You can find more information about our private lessons here.

German Course Registration
You can also join a course in progress if it is suitable in terms of level.
You can easily register free of charge and without obligation on our website.
You can fill out the registration form directly for your employee. If they already have prior knowledge of the language, they would need to fill out our placement test and we will contact them directly.
If there is no previous knowledge, we can make a reservation directly for the A1.1 course. Please send us your company address so that we can issue the invoice accordingly.
In this case, please contact our friendly customer office and our colleagues will check if we have received all the necessary information from you.
If you have no previous knowledge, that’s no problem. Our beginners course A1.1. is then just right for you. The only requirement for the course is the Latin alphabet, which you must know in order to participate in the course. The rest will be taught by our teachers. You can now easily take the placement test (if you already have German language skills) or reserve, book, change or cancel a course. You can also download all invoices and confirmations directly.

The course place is blocked for you until the displayed reservation date. Please pay by the date in order to firmly book the course place. If you do not pay, the reservation will automatically expire and the course place will no longer be blocked for you.

For the registration we only ask you to register in the webshop. We do not need any further documents from you. As soon as you are registered and placed into level, you can book a course place.

Group
We make every effort to ensure that you continue learning with the same group and the same teacher. However, we cannot always guarantee this, as several factors play a role here (does the trainer have time? Do the other participants continue to book? etc.) We therefore ask for your understanding should it not be possible at some point.

There is a maximum of 12 participants in a group. However, there are courses with fewer participants. Here you can find an overview of our course offer and exact information about the maximum number of participants per course type.
The booking situation is always changing therefore we cannot give any information about how many people are already booked. We ask for your understanding.
HR
Unfortunately, this question cannot be answered in a general way. Several factors always play a role. On the one hand, we pay attention to your professional qualifications, but on the other hand, we also pay attention to your soft skills. Therefore, please apply for the position you are interested in and our HR team will contact you after reviewing your documents.
You can still apply for any advertised position. We will check your application documents and you will always receive a reply no matter what the decision is.

Since we always try to keep your application process as short as possible, our HR employees have several appointments every day. For this reason, we ask that you send your inquiry via email. We respond to all emails within 24 hours. This way you can be sure that your request will be processed. We ask for your understanding.
Payment
You are welcome to come by the office during our opening hours (Monday - Thursday: 10am - 1pm & 2:30pm - 7pm (CEST)
Friday: 10am – 2pm (CEST)) to pay for your course. Please note that we only accept cash payments.
The course amount must be paid in full before the course starts. Unfortunately, payment in installments is not possible. However, we can make a reservation for you first so that you have time to pay the amount.
You can conveniently pay in our webshop with Visa, Mastercard or Girocard as well as via eps-transfer. Alternatively, you can also pay by bank transfer or PayPal, or in cash at our customer office. Please note that we do not accept card payment in the customer office.

You can make the billing address out to your employer when paying in the webshop. To do this, you must first pay the costs yourself and then have your employer reimburse you. Alternatively, your employer can make the payment in the webshop for you.

Reservation and booking
Basically there is no deadline and as long as we have places you can register or reserve. However, please note that courses fill up as the course start date approaches. Therefore, we recommend you make a reservation 2-3 weeks before the course starts.
Visa
You are welcome to download an invoice and booking confirmation for your visa application in the webshop.

The course takes place from Monday to Friday with 12 hours in-house (Monday-Thursday at DeutschAkademie Vienna, Opernring 1/E/1, 1010 Vienna) and 3 hours online (online Plus Course on Friday).

If you want to apply for a new language visa or extend your visa in the form of a language visa, you can book the appropriate language courses with us. Important here is the number of hours. Usually you need a total of 60 hours (80 teaching units) to get the language visa.
Normally you have to book a minimum number of German courses. Please check in advance with the consulate in your country how many courses you need to book.
You can then register at the DeutschAkademie Vienna. In case of previous knowledge we also need the placement test. After that you can book the appropriate courses + plus courses and download your invoice and booking confirmation in the webshop.
