Completely Different World

At first I had a negative opinion about zoos, but my boyfriend persuaded me. Of course, for us humans, the cells are „prisons“ and are associated with a „lack of freedom“. However, animals are not humans and in their natural environment, the area of wildlife habitat is limited between the territories of the neighboring living animals. Thus, by trying to cross the border they could be attacked, and possibly killed. Some small animals in a zoo feel more freedom, than they live in the natural environment. Moreover, zoo animals tend to live much longer life than the wild environment. And we should not forget about pests, diseases, predators, bad food, and many other reasons.

Yesterday I visited Tiergarten Schönbrunn, located in the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace. The weather was not very warm, so some animals were kept in specially designated areas, where of course you are able to see them. The park is very big and well-kept with play-ground for children, shop, cafes and restaurants. I believe, in summer it is full of various plants and trees. More than 500 species of birds and animals live there: koalas, rhinos, tigers, zebras, orangutans, hippos, seals, elephants, polar bears, giraffes, flamingos, penguins, birds and many others.

Most of all, I liked the Giant Panda, which is listed in the Red Book. It was my dream to meet it in real life. Fortunately, thanks to some increase in population International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources in 2016 changed the its status from „endangered“ to „in a vulnerable position“.

There are themed pavilions: Insectarium, Aquarium and Terrarium. It feels like you find yourself in another world and forget about everyday life.

Best Wishes,
