How I survived Viennese summer heat

Hi to everyone! Since it seems that the heat has come a little bit down in Vienna, I think I am ready to talk about how incredibly hot summer in Vienna is.

Studying German in July was probably by far one of the most difficult challenges I have ever had in my life because it required a lot of concentration and patience, which is almost impossible when it is so hot that your brain literally melts. Nevertheless, I have found an amazing way to cope with this heat and even make great use of it (besides purchasing a fan for my room) – swimming in Donau! This activity has become my favourite thing to do in this city, especially when the temperature reaches +35ºC. I spent all my Saturdays chilling on the river bank (U1 Donauinsel) swimming and sunbathing while enjoying my best friend’s company. The water in Donau is very hot and

clean, the sun definitely gives you sunburn first two-three times you decide to go there without a sunblock but afterwards the skin gets used to it and you can get even a more beautiful tan here than in Corfu! 🙂

Also, a great thing I have recently discovered is how awesome swimming in Donau late in the evening or at night is. The water gets super hot like boiled milk and, to tell the truth, swimming under the stars is one of the best experiences I’ve had in my entire life!

More posts to come, stay tuned!

Best wishes to all,
Anna
