Kunsthistorisches Museum

Several years ago I have finished the Art School. Thus, I do love art museums and am into it. I visited a lot of them all over the world and I can say for sure, that the Kunsthistorisches Museum stole my heart. I learnt a lot about famous artists and their painting, and was really surprised to find many of them just in one place.

Kunsthistorisches Museum stands on the Maria Theresien-Platz in front of the Museum of Natural History. Inside, the museum amazes its visitors by magnificence of decorations and beautiful interior. Especially, delightful dome and grand staircase grab all the attention, could be a separate museum by themselves.

The museum is divided into three main areas:

  • Egypt and the Middle East, where the most famous are: granite sarcophagus of Ptolemaic relief depicting a lion walking, mummy’s mask, sphinx statue, stele, stretchers for the funeral.
  • Greece and Rome, where the most famous are: the statue of Asherah, a hand mirror, a collection of Greek ceramics and Roman cameos, ring with images of Venus and Cupid.
  • Collection of art in Italy, which involves the best masterpieces of almost all artistic styles Italy (Tiziano, Cellini, Perugino, Raphael, Arcimboldo and many others).

It will take a lot of time to describe each room, and each painting, because they all deserve special attention. Nevertheless, I want to share some truly valuable paintings that you can find there:

The Tower of Babel by
 Pieter Bruegel the Elder

The Hunters in the Snow by Pieter Bruegel the Elder

The Head of Medusa by Peter Paul Rubens

If you love painting even a little, you have to visit it!

Best Wishes,

Valeriia
