The Spirit of the Empire

Now I would like to share my experience of visiting one the most impressive and wealthy museum I have ever been to. Thus, I was lucky to go to the Imperial Treasury (Kaiserliche Schatzkammer). It is located in one of the courtyards in the winter residence of the royal dynasty – Hofburg Palace.

Honestly, I can not say that I am always amazed by the number of diamonds and glitter of gold in simple things. Nevertheless, it is impossible not be impressed by the uniqueness of masters‘ work, all effort and skills invested to make all these riches. Jewellery, clothing, religious objects, and objects of everyday use, made of precious materials, – are all necessary attributes to distinguish the imperial Habsburg dynasty and show their high position among another ordinary society. Everything could be found in 21 rooms of this museum.

Particular attention is reserved for the royal attributes like the crown, robes, crosses, medals, wands and the royal sword. Personally, it was highly interesting to observe paintings with gold on them and framed in golden frames. There are also numerous gold religious attributes, showing a strong influence of the church on the society.

Holy Lance and Imperial Cross (1024-1025)

Imperial Treasury  amazes all visitors with its richness and truly considered as a cultural heritage of Austria. I believe, it is worth visiting.

Best Wishes,

Valeriia
