Wining just got cooler…

In my previous class (A.1.1), a classmate had told me about Genussmeile. It takes place usually in a mountain with many wineries once a year in the beginning of September. There are many wine stands representing different wineries selling Sturm, which is not fully wine yet, along with other drinks and some snack foods. September is the only time of the year when you can drink Sturm because Sturm is unable to be stored due to its rapid fermentation. It needs to be drunk within the next few days.

On Sunday, my boyfriend and I visited his hometown Modling which is about 20 min south of Vienna. We decided to go to Genussmeile rather late in the afternoon, so instead of making visits to all the wine stands hiking, we just met our friend and his family at the stand at the very bottom of the mountain. (It’d be a easy to moderate hike if you want to do the whole trail and wine surely should help.) Then, it was time to try the this famous Sturm. The color was rather orangey and opaque. It tasted like sparkly grape juice without any alcoholic taste whatsoever, and that’s why people here call it dangerous. You just keep on drinking as if a child drinks her grape juice, and at the end, you may have the similar effect as the sugar high child except you are just drunk.

Besides drinking Sturm, lightly hiking on the mountain through all the grape vines is highly enjoyable and relaxing. Maybe I’ll go again this weekend, why not.
