Inward travel conditions
Whether a valid passport is enough to enter Austria or whether a visa application is also necessary can be found in the alphabetical listing of the relevant countries. As the same conditions apply to residents of all EU States, these countries are grouped together as EU States.
Visa
You can only apply for a visa outside the country and it will be issued for a maximum of six months. The responsible body is the Austrian representation: the appropriate Austrian consulate of the Austrian Embassy. There you will find out what documentation is required for the issue of a visa. Great importance is attached to the completeness of your application.
An incompletely filled out application can lead to the refusal of your visa request.
It is not possible to extend the visa in Austria.
Residence permit
Residence permits are issued in Austria, often taking two to three months, and can be indefinite. When you first come to Austria, it is important that the date of arrival be noted in your passport with an arrival stamp. Only in this way you can apply for a residence permit without problems. Should there be no border control present, you can get your passport stamped at the local police station.
